(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police recently seized garments worth over Dh2 million after arresting a gang of four who allegedly committed a series of thefts from a warehouse. Two more suspects who allegedly bought the stolen goods were also arrested.
The gang comprised three Pakistanis and a Chinese. The police recovered goods valued at Dh2,219,772.
A top officer of the General Department of Criminal Investigation said a Chinese businesswoman lodged a complaint with the police about thefts at a warehouse belonging to her company in Sharjah Industrial Area 3.
The police immediately formed a team of CID officers to track down the culprits. During investigation, the team identified one of the suspects and arrested him from his house.
The suspect admitted that he had committed the thefts at the particular warehouse with the help of two others and a manager of the warehouse.
The manager of the warehouse initially denied the charge, but after being confronted with the testimony of the first suspect, he admitted to his role.
The manager said he misused his position as he had the keys and opened the warehouse for the other suspects to steal the goods and helped them ship the good on a truck. They informed the police that they sold the goods to another two suspects without any receipts or documents.
The police arrested the buyers and recovered the goods from a warehouse located in Industrial Area 1 belonging to one of the buyers.
The Sharjah Police warned companies that in the majority of such thefts, their own employees play a part. The officer urged the companies to ensure that the people they employ are honest and use an advanced surveillance system to watch the activities in their facilities. The system could be connect to the police's operations room.
