Danish Maersk Q1 profit up 1%


(MENAFN) A.P. Moeller-Maersk stated that first-quarter net profit went up slightly by 1 percent to USD1.17 billion, compared with USD1.16 billion in 2011's same period, reported Xinhua News. The Danish oil and shipping group said that total revenue fell 1 percent from last year's same period, reaching USD14.3 billion. It added that higher global oil prices boosted profits of Maersk Oil, the company's oil and gas business, which grew to USD1.3 billion from USD500 million. Moreover, profit of the group's terminals business reached USD235 million, whereas profit of its drilling business reached USD125 million. It is worth noting that during the quarter, Maersk Line, which is Moeller-Maersk's container-shipping business and the world's biggest container-shipping firm, posted a USD599 million loss, compared with a net profit of USD424 million in 2011.
