(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia placed a tender for a new metro transit system project in the capital Riyadh to tackle traffic jams in the cirty, Arabian Business reported. Arriyadh Development Authority's website invited international consortiums to make their bids to provide infrastructure including rolling stock and telecommunications, as well as tunnelling, civil, mechanical and electrical works. The prequalification application bids will be accepted until June 20 2012, the authority said on its website. The Ministry of Transport had approved the development of light rail networks in both Riyadh and Jeddah, the Saudi Gazette reported in February. The report added that the authorities were also planning to launch public transport projects in Hail, Abha, Khamis Mushayt and Uhud Rufaidah.
