Kuwait- Cars for 'sale' on roads will be picked, auctioned

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Jahra Municipality officials carried out an extensive campaign in Amghara Industrial Area to demolish illegal structures and issued 300 citations against neglected vehicles on the first day of the inspection. The Director General of Kuwait Municipality Eng. Ahmad Al-Subaih said the teams of Municipality officials organized inspection campaigns in six governorates against neglected vehicles along roadsides and deserted areas, adding that these campaigns will be carried out round the clock. He stressed that these crackdowns are aimed to control the phenomena of placing cars for sale in public areas, indicating that those who want to sell their vehicles, should advertise through appropriate legal media channels and not in random public locations. "Placing cars for sale in public areas or even neglecting them affects the public services and damages the pavements besides adding to the traffic build-up on roads", said Al-Subaih. He indicated that according to the Municipality law, the owner of the neglected vehicles should shift the vehicle within 48 hours, else it will be seized and referred to the concerned department for legal action. However, he warned that if the vehicle is not claimed in three months after the authorities seize it and the fine is not paid, the vehicle will be auctioned and the Municipality fees will be deducted from the price of the vehicle. He appreciated the efforts made by the officials for these inspection campaigns. Meanwhile, the Director of Public Services at Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Shareeda said Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim, the Minister of Electricity and Water and State Minister for Municipal Affairs, held a field meeting at the location of the recent fire incidents in Amghara with officials from the Interior Ministry. Consequently, they agreed to form a team to eliminate all negative phenomena in Amghara including neglected vehicles. Meanwhile, Colonel Khalid Al-Mekrad, the Acting Deputy Director General for Firefighting at Fire Services Directorate says a team from the department along with the Criminal Evidences Department is investigating the fire incident that occurred in a bus recently,, says Al-Seyassah. He said officers have picked fingerprints from the scene, adding that preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was premeditated since it occurred in an isolated area and the bus was probably burnt to cause panic and impede the operations of the firefighters. He explained that the department does not generally reveal reasons behind such incidents to the public; however, it is apparent that arson has been used in the recent fire incidents. He emphasized that it is impossible for fire accidents to occur four times consecutively within the same vicinity without the involvement of some people. He expressed appreciation towards approximately 200 firefighters from 16 fire stations who relentlessly worked to extinguish the fire that was raised two days ago. Paramedics treated 12 firemen who inhaled smoke while battling blazes of a huge fire in Amghara scrap yard on Friday, while 13 others were taken to hospital for further medical attention. The emergency plan has been implemented in all hospitals nationwide as soon as the ministry of health was notified of the fire, ministry of health assistant undersecretary for technical affairs Dr. Khaled Al-Sahlawi told KUNA. Firemen had succeeded in the massive fire, suspected of being a deliberate act. Al-Sahlawi said ambulances and paramedics were still at the scene until the fire was completely extinguished.
