(MENAFN - Arab Times) Several employees from the Family Welfare Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor staged a two-hour sit-in Wednesday in protest against the outstanding performance allowance they received recently, claiming it is not commensurate to the efforts they exerted in their jobs.
The protesters revealed they received only KD300, which is a paltry sum compared to the amount specified by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) " KD 800 for employees in levels one to four and KD 600 for those in levels five to seven.
Speaking to reporters, one of the protesters, who requested anonymity, disclosed the CSC has approved a budget of KD 83,000 for the payment of the outstanding performance allowance for deserving employees at the department but they did not receive the allotted amount.
The protester pointed out the demands presented by the department reflect equality among its employees in terms of the performance rating, overtime and exemptions despite the fact that it has been without a director for the last 18 months.
Meanwhile, Director of the Inspection and Verification Department Hassan Al-Kathim confirmed the protesters have ended their sit-in since six of the employees have been chosen to represent them in a dialogue with the ministry to present their demands, which will be forwarded to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Lieutenant General Ahmad Al-Rujeib.
