(MENAFN - Arab News) King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) is all set to host the Saudi International Conference for Environmental Technology 2012 in Riyadh on Sunday under the auspices of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, according to a statement.

The event, which will discuss the latest developments in the field of environmental technology, will be attended by a number of global experts and researchers from around the world. They will be discussing the latest developments on environmental technology in various fields.

The conference is being organized by KACST at its headquarters from May 13-15, during which a scientific paper will discuss the latest developments on the Kingdom plans with special reference to transferring, nationalizing and developing advanced environmental technologies aimed at environmental conservation and development of natural resources.

According to the organizer, the conference intends, among others, to boost cooperation between various participating groups in order to achieve the priorities of the national strategy for environmental technology.

The National Center for Environmental Technology at KACST also aims at establishing an advanced technology industry on environment and strengthening the Kingdom's competitiveness in the global market for environmental technology. This would pave its way to join the efforts of the international community to protect the environment and promote sustainable environmental development.

The conference will discuss technical developments in the field of environmental waste and soil pollution. Participants will also discuss the treatment mechanisms and how to uphold the air quality and the effects of climate change and its solutions in addition to many other strategic issues on technology of interest to the Kingdom.

Decision makers and officials are expected to attend the conference in addition to businessmen and investment firms. Various public and private universities and government development centers as well as specialized governmental and independent research centers are also expected to attend.

Innovators, inventors, researchers, and service providers in this field will be attending the event.

Other sectors and partners working in developing programs for the implementation of the national strategic plan in this field as well as excellent centers and departments of patents and intellectual property protection will also be represented.

The General Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection, the Ministry of Health, the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development, and the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh City will be present at the event.

The Kingdom has a clear vision in terms of environmental technology that includes achieving sustainable environmental development through the evolution and transfer of advanced environmental technologies in order to save the environment and reinforce its natural resources.

Climate change and environmental pollution are considered the most important environmental issues in the world today. They need to be studied carefully and fully understood.

International attention has focused in recent years on the relationship between the world's rapid development and the correlating environmental problems. The scale of development seen in the last few decades cannot continue at its current pace, due to diminishing natural resources and the diverse impact on the environmental ecosystem.

For this reason, the future vision of environmental technology in the Kingdom was formed to achieve environmentally sustainable development.
