(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Jordan Customs Department (JCD) agents on Wednesday seized three kilogrammes of hashish that were hidden in cheese containers in a passenger vehicle entering the country through the Jaber border crossing, a department official said.
"The suspect [the driver of the vehicle] hid the illegal narcotics inside balloons and placed them between the pieces of cheese, but an agent who carefully inspected the vehicle found the hidden drugs," the senior JCD official said.
The illegal narcotics were destined for a neighbouring country, the official told The Jordan Times.
The driver was arrested and handed over to the State Security Court prosecution for questioning, he added.
Also on Wednesday, JCD agents seized a trailer that was storing smuggled goods in an Amman neighbourhood, according to the official.
JCD agents received a tip that a trailer was transporting smuggled goods within the capital, "so we intercepted the vehicle and found the goods hidden under sand in the trailer", the official said.
Upon searching the trailer, he added, agents found 1,644 cigarette cartons, 1,950 flash memory drives, 258 tape recorders, 20 digital cameras and a number of computers.
