German trade team seeks to boost ties with Qatar


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A German trade delegation is here and its focus is on cooperation with Qatari businesses, especially in the small and medium enterprises that hold the key to Qatar's crucial diversification effort. The visitors held a meeting hosted by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), representative body of the private sector, here yesterday. Addressing the meet, Marc Hall, head of the delegation, said the SMEs are a hallmark of the German economy. He said the objective of the trade mission is to help increase German exports and further trade ties between the two countries. "Qatar is a key trade partner of Germany and many German companies are based here, more particularly in the energy and construction sectors," he said. As for Qatar, it also has sizeable investment in Germany, more particularly in car manufacturing and banking sectors, he added. Present were Remy Rowhani, director general of QCCI, and Michael Heller, head of the economic department at the German embassy here, among others. Rowhani said the QCCI will be hosting a key International Chamber of Commerce meet where more than 2,000 delegates are expected to converge. QCCI board member Mohamed Al Obaidli and Salah Al Jaidha, CEO Deutsche Bank AG Qatar briefed the delegation about the booming Qatari economy and the business and investment opportunities available here. Al Jaidah said the Qatari economy is growing fast, its size being $172bn, or 12.5 percent of the total GDP of the Gulf region.
