Jordan- Two arrested for robbery, murder

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Police on Sunday announced the arrest of two men who reportedly robbed and murdered a 70-year-old man in Rweished on Thursday. The two suspects reportedly confessed to stabbing and beating the victim to death after entering his house to rob him, Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said. "The suspects said the victim interrupted them while they were robbing his house and that they stabbed him and then beat him up, causing his immediate death," the PSD official added. Khatib said that police had suspected two men who resided in the same neighbourhood as the victim and monitored them for a brief period before arresting them. "Upon searching their house, we found some of the stolen items from the victim's house," he noted. The two suspects were ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation into the case. Also Sunday, police arrested a 30-year-old man who reportedly shot and killed his relative and then dumped his body on a main road in Karak on Saturday. The suspect reportedly confessed to shooting the victim to death following a heated argument at his house in a neighbourhood in Karak, 118 kilometres south of Amman, Khatib said. "The suspect then dumped the victim's body on the main road in Karak and called the police to claim that the man had been killed after being run over by a vehicle that fled the scene," Khatib said. When ambulance personnel and police officers arrived at the scene, he added, the suspect told investigators that the victim was his relative. "Investigators became suspicious of the suspect's story and the fact that he did not identify the victim as his relative when he called in to report the accident, so they questioned him," Khatib said. The suspect reportedly confessed to shooting the victim in the head following an argument and "reenacted the murder", he added. Also Sunday, Khatib said police were searching for a 37-year-old man who shot and killed his younger brother in Al Jafer area in the southern Governorate of Maan. "We have a good description of the suspect and we are certain that we will arrest him soon," the PSD spokesperson said, noting that police still have not identified a motive for the murder.
