(MENAFN Press) Vision-X Dubai is gearing up to welcome over 3,900 top industry professionals from more than 63 countries to the Middle East's largest and most established optical and ophthalmic exhibition and conference next month.

Growing in size year on year, the show is now in its 13th edition and is set to maximise opportunities for exhibitors to expand their market share, allowing them to network with key industry players, discover new trends and launch new products.

One of the highlights of Vision-X Dubai this year will be the Middle East Africa Vitreo-Retinal Society (MEAVRS) Clinical Uveitis Course. Launched in 2009, MEAVRS is one of the subspecialty societies of the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology. It aims to promote Vitreo-Retinal education and training in member societies. All attending conference delegates will receive a certificate of continuing medical education.

"Eye care is an essential part of the healthcare sector," said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre. "Vision-X Dubai aims to cover the entire spectrum of the industry by including globally recognised training and education programmes on the agenda, along with showcasing latest products and developments. This year, Vision-X will bring in distinguished speakers from renowned institutions around the region to speak at the event. The discussion of latest scientific information and best practices, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities will no doubt make this show a key feature on the eye care industry calendar."

Organised with the support of the Emirates Medical Association Ophthalmic Society, this intensive course will be held on 10 May, and provide a comprehensive educational programme for ophthalmologists, optometrists and eye care providers from around the world. It will feature international experts in ophthalmology to discuss critical information on the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis, an eye condition prevalent in this region.

"Uveitis is prevalent in this region and if treated incorrectly, can result in blindness and visual impairment," said Manal Taryam, Secretary General, MEAVRS and President, Emirates Medical Association Ophthalmic Society. "The uveitis course is designed to give ophthalmology practitioners a deeper understanding on diagnosing and treating the disease adequately. It is also an opportunity for all to get together on a common platform and share updates on the industry and their experiences on this subject."

Key speakers at the course include Prof. Fernando Arevalo, Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Prof. Hassan El Dhibi, Chief of the Uveitis Division at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia, Prof. Ahmed M. Abu El Asrar, Professor/Consultant, Department of Ophthalmology, College of medicine, King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Rola Hamam, a full-time member in the Department of Ophthalmology at the American University of Beirut. The course will be held from 9am “ 5pm on 10 May.

Segmented into two areas - 'Vision Opticare' and 'Vision Lifestyle', Vision-X Dubai will incorporate the full spectrum of eye care. Vision Opticare will showcase the latest medical Ophthalmic, Optometric and Technical Equipment and Machinery, while Vision Lifestyle, will focus on innovations and trends in Eyewear Fashion and Accessories.

Vision-X Dubai will be held in Sheikh Saeed Halls 2 & 3 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 8-10 May 2012. Timings are from 10am “ 7pm daily. Vision-X Dubai is strictly a trade-only event and is open to business and trade visitors from within the industry only. Registration is available in advance online at www.vision-x.ae.
