We need a new learning system for a new knowledge world - Abu-Ghazaleh

DEAD SEA, Jordan --- April 24, 2012 --- Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) stressed that we need a new educational system that is compatible with the knowledge age.

Speaking at the Annual Private Schools Conference on "Quality of School Education" held at the Kempinski Hotel- Dead Sea, Abu-Ghazaleh, Guest of Honor, said in his keynote speech entitled "A Change for Quality in Education" that we need an education that is competitive worldwide for the preparation of generations able to deal with globalization.

"School educational environments are educational camps unfriendly to learning. At the knowledge era today, a gap and a crisis occurred due to students' ability to knowledgeably outclass their teachers. The gap is growing bigger as the information a student gets from outside the classroom is more than what he receives from his teacher," he added.

Abu-Ghazaleh called on all educational institutions to adopt an educational approach to shift from teaching to learning entailing as well a change in teacher's role to facilitating instead of instructing.

He tackled quality of education saying "We need to give more attention to future education which will be different from today's. What we really need is learning for citizenship with new goal and content so that the student becomes a good productive citizen."

Abu-Ghazaleh warned that we will encounter a serious education problem as it's not compatible to compete with the worldwide one since we haven't thought of establishing knowledge education that goes will together with the knowledge society and knowledge economy.

Therefore, Abu-Ghazaleh announced the launch of the University of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh (UTAG), the first global digital business university of its kind in the world.
"This is the first business model of a corporate virtual university with no limits and nonstop innovation with special programs designed to fulfill every individual's needs in business, management, information technology and languages."

He also underlined the role and efforts of the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN), a non-profit independent association established under the umbrella of the League of Arab States to implement, manage and extend sustainable Pan-Arab e-Infrastructures dedicated for the Research and Education communities and to boost scientific research and cooperation in member countries through the provision of world-class e-Infrastructures and E-services.
