Saudi Aramco awards contract to expand power stations

(MENAFN) Saudi Aramco awarded International Power to expand the capacity of its Tihama power plants, the Construction Week reported. International Power, owned 70 percent by GDF Suez, and Saudi Oger, will carry out the expansion of 532MW and 868t/h of steam at three of Tihama's four sites; Ju'aymah, Shedgum and Uthmaniyah, where Saudi Aramco's gas and oil refineries are located. The company will back the expansion by long-term Energy Conversion Agreements (ECAs) through to 2026. Hyundai Heavy Industries was chosen to undergo the engineering, procurement and construction works, while General Electric (GE) will supply the gas turbines. The work on the expansions at all three sites is expected to start in next month, and they are expected to run between late 2014 and mid-2015.
