Microsoft sells USD550m worth of AOL patents to Facebook

(MENAFN) Microsoft Corp. said that it is selling around 650 of the 925 AOL patents it just acquired to Facebook for USD550 million, reported AP. The company added that it will get a license to use the patents Facebook is acquiring, moreover, Facebook will also get a license to use the rest of the AOL patents that Microsoft has. It also said that the agreement will allow the company to get back half the cost of the AOL deal while reaching its goals for the purchase. On the other hand, Facebook said that the measure is a crucial step in the firm's constant process of building an intellectual property portfolio to protect its interests over the long term. It is worth noting that the two companies agreed not to sue each other over any of the AOL patents.
