Qatar's Foreign Investment Contributes to Global Growth


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Supachai Panitchpakdi said that Qatar's investments around the world make it to occupy a leading position among the countries, considering that its investment strategy which is based on effective studies of the market makes it an example of a country that promotes growth opportunities in the international community. The UNCTAD Secretary-General said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the 13th session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development, held currently in Doha, that the Qatari investment approach will contribute to support the international efforts to lay basic foundations to achieve the sustainable development by supporting the economies of the developing countries under its presidency of the UNCTAD conference for the next four years. He noted to Qatar's humanitarian role in the Arab revolutions spring by offering financial assistance, saying that this support is necessary to avoid worsening economic conditions in those countries. Panitchpakdi stressed that all productive sectors should contribute to the gross domestic product (GDP), saying that the contribution of services sector to the GDP will increase in the world countries during the coming period, noting to Qatar's efforts to diversify its economy. He hailed the efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar for the proper organization of the UNCTAD conference in terms of the preparation of working papers and the sessions and in terms of logistic services provided for the participants, saying that this will contribute to achieving the desired goals of the conference and will unite the international community to achieve the sustainable development of the world during Qatar's presidency of the conference for the next four years. The 13th session of UNCTAD conference is the most important economic conference held after the global economic crisis under the UN patronage in order to achieve a better future development for the peoples of the world, he said. The UNCTAD conference is a forum to exchange experiences and to plan for the future of the global economic map, Panitchpakdi said, adding that it is an intellectual economic forum covers various economic issues in the world in order to develop frameworks for the future global economy. One of the major negative repercussions on the global economy during the current stage is the decline the global commodity demand, Panitchpakdi said, pointing that the recovery in the developed economies is the only way to get out of the recession. It is necessary to achieve economic recovery for all world countries in spite of the emergence of BRICS group: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which are the fastest economic growing countries.
