Kuwait- 13-kg tumor removed from uterus of horse 

(MENAFN - Arab Times) In an unprecedented event, the Kuwait Veterinary Hospital for Horses managed to perform a rare surgical operation lasting 3 hours to remove a tumor weighing 13kg from the uterus of a horse named "Wahu", says KUNA.

Consultant for Horse Surgery in the Veterinary Hospital Dr Mohammad Marzouq mentioned that the surgery was possible due to technical and administrative capabilities available in the country, which in the past were not present. He noted that surgeries of this nature require the removal of entire stomach of the sick horse after it has been sedated.

Dr Marzouq added that horse owners are benefiting from medical services rendered by the veterinary hospital.

The hospital has become a refuge for the owners of horse barns and their horses, considering it is the only specialized hospital for horses in Kuwait that renders partial and complete surgeries, as well as medical follow-up.

In 2006, the hospital received the Mohammad Rashid Al-Maktoum award for best Arab project. The hospital occupies 10,000 square/meters area and has been built at the cost of 2 million dinars.

It has stalls, comprehensive check-up equipment, medical laboratory, pharmacy, and other medical supplies for horses.
