(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Airport International Group (AIG), the Jordanian consortium responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), announced on Tuesday in a press release that the results for the first quarter of 2012 continue to be positive growth trends in passenger traffic, aircraft movements, and processed cargo.
"For the first time in QAIA history, passenger traffic in January and February exceeded 800,000 passengers, while March recorded the highest passenger volume of the quarter with over 500,000 travellers coming through the airport, a 31 per cent increase compared with the same period of last year," the AIG indicated in the press statement.
The overall first quarter results represent a 24 per cent increase from same period in 2011 with 1,400,000 passengers, the AIG said. Aircraft movements (ACM) also experienced positive growth during the first quarter, with over 15,000 ACM in total, a 7 per cent increase compared with the same period last year. In terms of cargo processed at the airport, over 21,000 tonnes made its way through the QAIA in the first quarter, a 4.5 per cent increase from same period last year.
