South Sudan is newest World Bank member

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) South Sudan, the world's newest country, is taking up membership in the World Bank, dpa cited the international development lender as announcing Tuesday. The Republic of South Sudan broke away last year from Sudan after a referendum, which was held as part of a peace deal that ended the south's long-running civil war with the Khartoum-based government. South Sudan Finance Minister Kosti Manibe Ngai is scheduled to sign documents to join the World Bank Group on Wednesday, on the sidelines of this week's twice-annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund at their headquarters in Washington.
