(MENAFN - Arab News) The Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) will implement five development projects in the capital with the aim of improving the environment, making available more picnic facilities and giving a greener look to the city.
The project includes closing down a sewage dumping facility in east Riyadh, increased tree planting activities and developing a seed bank.
The ADA has currently taken steps to stop tankers depositing sewage in the east of the Nazeem district in east Riyadh as waste water has been polluting the environment in nearby locations. The location will be developed into a three-kilometer public picnic center, Alsharq daily reported yesterday.
ADA's Projects and Planning Center has also decided to implement the second phase of the 340,000-square meter public picnic area at the present vehicle detention center in the Wadi Laban. The detention center, which used to dump damaged and seized automobiles in the city, will be relocated to another place outside the wadi.
ADA's green surface project has already planted 6,000 acacia trees at Al-Thamamah picnic center. More than 80,000 plants of the acacia family such as Raddiana, Laeta and Flava will be planted shortly.
ADA is also launching a seed bank project for which seeds of local flora would be collected and classified scientifically.
