(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Doha will host the 10th GCC Water Conference on April 22, under the patronage of HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammad Saleh Al Sada.
The Conference is jointly organized by the Water Science and Technology Association (WSTA), Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) and the Secretariat General of the GCC. The Conference will focus on coordination and cooperation between the GCC countries in the development and management of water resources, and the rationalization of water usage.
The Conference will bring about 500 participants from the GCC States and a number of Arab and foreign countries, a press statement by the organizers said. Qatar National Food Security Programme (QNFSP) will be an a strategic partner with the Conference.
This was announced at a ceremony jointly hosted by the Programme in the presence of Chief Executive of the Qatar National Food Security Programme Fahd bin Mohammad Al Attiyah and Eng. Ali Saif Al-Maliki, head of the Conference Organizing committee and Director of Water Network Systems at KAHRAMAA. Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, Chief Executive of Qatar National Food Security Programme (QNFSP) expressed in a speech on the occasion the interest in contributing to support the work of the 10th GCC Water Conference in Doha. He said: "Our strategic partnership with the 10th GCC Water Conference aims to strengthening the joint action in order to ensure the sustainability of water resources in the region."
He commended the opportunity to be provided by the Conference to review the challenges associated with the remarkable growth and the economic boom Qatar and the GCC countries were witnessing. He also pointed out that the participation of the Qatar National Food Security Programme in the conference aimed at highlighting the importance of the role of States, institutions and individuals to increase their cooperation in water projects, food and energy sectors. For his part, Eng. Ali Saif Al-Maliki, Head of Organizing Committee of the Conference stressed the importance of the strategic partnership of Qatar National Food Security Programme with the 10thGCC Water Conference as it supports the national development strategy for Qatar 2011/2016 being prepared to achieve the ambitious goals set by the Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims to draw Qatar future and lay the foundation for sustainable development.
He added, "Our partnership reflects the vital role of the leading national institutions in the state and their interest in promoting research and studies in view of the scientific nature of the Conference which will feature more than 70 scientific papers", he said.
