Egypt- Ten casualties reported from huge fire at NPC Suez facility


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A huge fire broke out at a refinery belonging to Egypt's Nasr Petroleum Company (NPC) in Suez Governorate, east Cairo, this afternoon, killing at least one person and injuring nine others, medical sources said Saturday. "The Suez Pubic Hospital received the ten casualties including a charred body while dozens of ambulances and fire engines are battling against the fire, " Dr. Hafez Al-Hawwan, director of the Hospital told reporters here. "Some of the injured are in critical conditions," he said, noting that the fire followed a series of blasts inside the oil facility. The company's firefighters backed by the local and military fire engines rushed to the scene while security services started probing the accident, Director of Suez Security Dept. Maj.-Gen Adel Refaat said this evening. "The fire is still raging and the local authorities of the governorate are mulling the possibility of seeking help of fire departments of nearby governorates," he revealed. Minister of Oil Abdullah Ghorab and leaders of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the third army command went to the site to inspect the firefighting operation.
