(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Pakistani expatriates remitting Dh15,000 home through banks and licensed exchange houses will be rewarded with commendation certificates, said Jamil Ahmed Khan, Pakistan Ambassador to the UAE.
"Pakistani community in the UAE shall send their remittances to the country only by legal channels," he said while talking to a delegation of community members from Dubai. The ambassador said Pakistanis are patriotic by nature and will enhance sending their hard-earned money through banks and exchange companies.
"All Pakistanis sending remittance to the tune of Dh15,000 will be awarded commendation certificates," he added. He also said some of the exchange companies operating in the UAE violate government rules by manipulation of generating Pak rupee through local means without conversion of foreign exchange into Pak rupee account and at the same time opening UAE dirham account in the UAE where they deposit local currency that is otherwise meant to be sent to Pakistan.
Khan said it was a grave violation of law and the Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will be approached to take strict action against such exchange companies. The ambassador assured the community members of his full support in the matter and also thanked them for pointing out such illegal com panies that encourage the tendency of money laundering.
He also took notice of the banks that delay the payment of remitted money to the beneficiaries in Pakistan. "The government is taking all possible measures to assist the Pakistani expatriates who send money back to their home country and casual attitude of some of the banks will not be tolerated," he said. He told the delegation that he would write to the State Bank of Pakistan in this regard.
