(MENAFN - Arab Times) MP Adel Al-Damkhi proposed to the government Sunday to establish "a center to treat negative phenomena alien to Kuwaiti society."

The Islamist MP explained the proposal arrives "in light of the occasional spread of negative phenomena alien to our Kuwaiti society."

The center should also aim "to promote noble values amongst Kuwaiti youth, who are the future of the country; to fight what affects the moral values of the society; and to encourage the youth to be involved in fields that serve the nation," he added.

Similarly, Justice Bloc Islamist MP Mohammed Hayef warned the Education Ministry Sunday of "allowing a mixed event to take place on the premises of the American University". He alleged the university had announced the event and that it will take place next Thursday from 8 am to 12 pm.

Violates
In a press statement, he said the mixed event or concert violates Sharia and the customs and traditions of the conservative people of Kuwait, claiming that KD 10,500 of the government's student budget was allocated to the event.

"Arguing that it is a family event is deception, the Education Minister must stop this violation that will lead to the disruption of the education process and will cause conflict and political crisis," he stated.

On another note, liberal MP Nabil Al-Fadhl expressed hope that the Legal and Legislative Committee approves the Public Prosecution's request to lift parliament immunity from the MPs who stormed the National Assembly last November. He stressed the MPs have admitted they participated in the event and have also issued public statements urging their immunity be lifted so that they may face trial.

Al-Fadhl said their statements are politically motivated. "We've witnessed before similar statements from MPs, who then conspired with their allies in the committee not to lift their immunity," he stated, urging the Kuwaiti people to monitor the progress of the case.

Al-Fadhl called on MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei, who is chairman of the legal committee, not to attend the meetings that discuss the prosecution's request since he is one of the MPs who broke into the parliament.

Charged
Other MPs charged with storming the parliament are Musallam Al-Barrak, Jamaan Al-Harbash, Mubarak Al-Waalan, Faisal Al-Mislem, Falah Al-Sawagh, Khaled Al-Tahous and Salem Al-Namlan, as well as former MP Fahd Al-Khanna.

The legal and Legislative Committee announced that it will invite all the MPs mentioned in the prosecution's request next Sunday to record their statements in that regard. The committee will also invite MP Mohammed Al-Juwaihel to discuss a similar request against him.

Rapporteur of the committee MP Mohammed Al-Dallal further disclosed that there is also a request by the Interior Ministry against MP Faisal Al-Mislem, charging him of defamation against a prominent businessman. He said the committee will invite the Interior Minister to discuss the request.

Al-Dallal added the legal committee also unanimously approved amendments to the Penal Code pertaining to blasphemy. The amendments stipulate the death penalty for those who publicly insult God Almighty (Divine Entity) or Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) or his wives. He said the committee discussed the matter with representatives from the Awqaf Ministry and fatwa experts and the bill will be on the agenda of the next session.

Meanwhile, Justice Bloc MP Osama Al-Munawer assured that the Majority Bloc are not in disagreement over the priorities that pertain to reform and development, despite the disagreements over intended grilling requests against state ministers. He said the bloc was formed to fulfill those priorities.

Moreover, Chairman of the Financial Affairs committee, MP Marzouq Al-Ghanim, said the committee will invite all concerned ministers and all 49 MPs to attend a meeting next Wednesday to discuss the Public Tenders Law and make the necessary amendments.

Also:
KUWAIT CITY: The issue of teachers's pay raise will be addressed by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) within a couple of weeks, the National Assembly's Education, Culture, and Guidance Committee said here Sunday.

Rapporteur of the committee MP Bader Al-Dawhom said that the committee met today with representatives of the Education Ministry, the CSC, Fatwa and legislation departments, Kuwait's Teachers Society, and other entities, discussing the issue in details.

Meanwhile, the committee also touched on the issue of the Jaber University for Applied Science, said the MP, noting that the matter would be further discussed and hopefully such talks would lead to the establishment of the institution.
