(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A group of lawyers gathered outside the Professional Associations Complex in Shmeisani on Saturday to express solidarity with the Syrians.
Around 70 lawyers held a one-hour demonstration and carried banners condemning the bloodshed in the neighbouring country.
Rejecting any kind of foreign intervention in Syria, Yahia Abu Aboud, a member of the Jordan Bar Association, said the demonstration was organised to express support for the Syrians and condemn the crimes in their country.
"We support the Syrians for their dedication to gaining their freedom. We condemn any kind of foreign intervention, whether by Iran, Russia, China or NATO," he told The Jordan Times during the protest, adding that the Syrian regime and anyone who supports them must be prosecuted.
He called on Arab governments to provide Syrians with support to overcome the Syrian regime.
Another lawyer, Hussein Ajarmeh, said the bloody scenes and crimes Syrians are facing are crueller than the massacres that took place during the Middle Ages.
"What the regime is doing these days are crimes against humanity," he told The Jordan Times.
"I call on the Jordanian government to expel the Syrian ambassador since he represents the cruel regime," he added.
Ajarmeh demanded that the government support the Free Syrian Army, and said he also supported sending humanitarian aid to Syria and establishing safe passages for civilians to flee the violence.
Barkat Jaabari, former president of the Jordan Dentists Association, said he took part in Saturday's demonstration to support the Syrians who sacrificed everything for the sake of freedom and to overcome the oppression they have been enduring for around 40 years.
"I appreciate the move taken by Jordanian lawyers to support Syrians," he said.
Jaabari expressed dissatisfaction with the response of the Arab League and Arab governments to the Syrian crisis.
"What they have done so far is not what the Arab people are hoping or waiting for," he noted.
