(MENAFN - Jordan Times) The Jabal Amman Residents Association (JARA) will open its visitors information centre to the public next month, to help sightseers find their way around Jabal Amman and the rest of the Kingdom, a JARA official said Tuesday.
"This centre, which will be established at the JARA Building on Rainbow Street, will help visitors and Jordanians find places of historical and heritage significance in Jabal Amman and Jordan, such as the oldest houses, schools and hospitals," JARA Director of Programmes Akef Qusous told The Jordan Times over the phone yesterday.
The centre, financed by USAID, will include two rooms, the first of which will display maps, brochures and photographs providing visitors with details about Jabal Amman, which is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the capital.
Visitors to the Jabal Amman room will find information about galleries, cinemas, schools, famous historical figures who lived in the neighbourhood and its place in the Kingdom's political history, Qusous told The Jordan Times.
The second room will display maps and brochures with details about other sites in the capital and in other parts of Jordan, he added.
"The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Greater Amman Municipality will provide us with brochures about Amman and the Kingdom," Qusous noted.
He stressed that one of the important items the centre will provide is a map that will direct people where to go in Jabal Amman.
"The walking trail map will show visitors and Jordanians where to go and which roads are the best to walk on. Also, it will guide them to 15 important places in the area such as the houses of King Talal and Lt. Gen. John Bagot Glubb, and the old Parliament building," Qusous said, adding that the map will also provide details about the history of these sites.
Signs will also be put up from Third Circle to direct visitors to the location of the centre, the JARA official added.
