(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait Ambassador to Lebanon Abdul'al Al-Qana'ei affirmed here on Wednesday the importance of Kuwaiti support to Lebanon, which bore fruits in many developing and human projects, most prominently the launch of Litani project on Tuesday.
Ambassador Al-Qana'ei noted that Kuwait will not hesitate to support developing projects and progress in Lebanon, adding that the Litani project has a human and developing dimension, especially since it guarantees irrigation water to 15,000 hectares of southern lands, as well as creating thousands of job opportunities in South Lebanon.
Kuwait has pledged USD 70 million to the project while AFESD pledged USD 92 million. Up to 90 villages and towns will benefit from the water project, forecast to cost a total of USD 330 million.
The first of the two stages of the project will supply drinking water to 200, 000 residents and irrigation water to 4,200 hectares of arable land in the targeted areas where up to 110 million cubic meters of water will be pumped from the river per year.
