(MENAFN - Gulf Times) Barton P Cahir has been appointed as the president and general manager of ExxonMobil Qatar.

Cahir will be responsible for leading the interface of all ExxonMobil-affiliated activities in Qatar in partnership with Qatar Petroleum as well as joint ventures between Qatar Petroleum International and ExxonMobil abroad.
ExxonMobil said it is working to realise the full potential of Qatar's energy industry.

An American and Irish citizen, Cahir holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering from Penn State University in Pennsylvania. He has worked for ExxonMobil for almost 20 years in the United States, Asia and the Middle East.

Commenting on his appointment Cahir said: "I have been given an incredible opportunity to work in Qatar and I look forward to working with, learning from, and sharing my experiences with, other leaders in Qatar who are actively participating in the overall development of this country. Qatar has been blessed with natural resources, and I believe the energy industry is a key sector for Qatar's continued economic
development."

Joining ExxonMobil as a subsurface engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana in the early 1990s, Cahir progressed through various assignments focused on upstream oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico, South Louisiana and Mobile Bay in the United States.

He became ExxonMobil Production's Gulf of Mexico deepwater reservoir engineering supervisor in 2002 and in 2004 moved to ExxonMobil's production headquarters as planning and business analyst for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East
regions.

Cahir was then relocated to Indonesia in 2006, where he served as the vice-president for engineering and later as vice-president for production at ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia Inc, while also serving as a director for PT Arun LNG. In these roles he was responsible for oversight of ExxonMobil's gas production and LNG manufacturing assets in North Sumatra, Indonesia.

In 2010 he moved to Qatar to become vice-president and joint interest manager as well as general manager for the Al Khaleej Gas Project. He was named acting president and general manager in August 2011.

Cahir will maintain focus on the company's philanthropic activities in Qatar. He said: "ExxonMobil touches every aspect of the National Vision. From economy to environment, human to social, ExxonMobil has positioned itself with the campaigns, programmes and opportunities that allow it to make significant contributions while best aligning itself with the objectives Qatar has set out in the National Vision. As an invited guest in Qatar, ExxonMobil values its role and aims to support the Qatari leadership in the directions set for the country."

In his new capacity, Cahir will serve on the board of directors of INJAZ-Qatar created to inspire a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation among Qatari youth, and will be a board member of the Qatar Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce, the world's largest business federation.
