(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Some 140 Omani students have received scholarships from the Ministry of Higher Education for pursuing studies at 13 different German universities. They will join a group of 69 scholarship holders already studying in that country.
The Omani students and their families were welcomed at a reception here hosted by Angelika Storz-Chakarji, the German Ambassador, and Dr Nicola Huson, Representative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Head of German Department at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech).
"For the first time ever such a large group of Omani students will study in Germany. You will be ambassadors of your country and all of you will learn German at the beginning. I wish you all the best for your studies," Storz-Chakarji said addressing the students.
She said she had already contacted the 13 German cities to prepare for the arrival of the students and to enhance understanding between the two cultures. I have personally informed all Mayors of the cities where you are studying about your arrival."
This will be the sixth batch of students who will be studying in Germany; they will study at universities in Frankfurt, Berlin, Leipzig, Koethen, Marburg, Hannover, Dresden, Kassel and Heidelberg. The students will first study German for six to ten months and then pass a one year Pre-University Programme.
