(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Amani Bouresli discussed with a number of industrial figures on Monday means of tackling obstacles facing efforts for development of the sector.

In a statement to journalists following the meeting, Bouresli said she had called for holding the meeting because of the significance of this sector as one of the pillars of the national economy.

The meeting was attended by the Director-General of the Public Authority for Industry, Dr. Ali Al-Mudhaf, and the Chairman of the Kuwaiti Industries Union Hussein Al-Kharafi as well as owners of plants and some major industrial installations in the country.

Bouresli confirmed the special concern attached to the industrial sector considering its substantial proceeds, noting the need to bolster this vital and productive sector.

She assured the industrialists on the commitment to help them remove all barriers obstructing their efforts and tasks.

Participants in the meeting discussed prospects of facilitating issuance of licenses and a proposal to set a up special service center for the industrialists, with the aim of facilitating their procedures and paper work. They also examined plans for developing industrial towns, future projects, hiking subsidies for the sector and supporting the national product.
Some participating figure proposed setting up environment-friendly industrial towns, following the example of some European nations. The minister promised to examine the prospects of building such mega zones for the sector.

They also called for intensifying media campaigns for promoting the national manufacturing sector, enforcing the relevant laws and developing the sector to make it more attractive for local and external investors.
The conferees adopted the minister's proposal to draft a broad plan for the industrialists' demands and their main problems.
