(MENAFN) The Lebanese Energy and Water Minister said that Lebanon awaits for an electricity crisis in the coming summer if no measures are taken to boost the country's supply, reported the Daily Star.
The minister said that Lebanon was facing extreme electricity rotations due to shortage of supply capacity of old power plants. Rotations could go up to fourteen hours every day.
The minister had already provided the government with a plan to handle the situation and it is still waiting for Cabinet approval. The plan requires building new electricity plant over the next four years that runs on gas and would cost five billion dollars.
It is worth noting that Lebanon needs to increase its electricity production capacity from 1,600 MW to more than 2,300 MW.
