(MENAFN - The Peninsula) A bizarre road accident took place in Maizer yesterday in which the top of a Honda Civic car was blown off after the vehicle hit the divider in the middle of the road and later collided with the electricity post there.
The Rayyan police and Traffic Department which investigated the incident refused to give details. Calls made by this newspaper to these two departments failed to evoke any response.
We are not allowed to divulge information, a Rayan traffic official said.
Eye witnesses gave confusing accounts of the incident, as one of them said three African nationals were in the car, while another said only two people were there.
They said at least two persons were critically injured in the mishap and carried away in an ambulance for emergency medical care.
The accident took place between 4pm and 5pm in the eastern part of Maizer suburb. The ill-fated car was heading toward the equestrian club, said eye witnesses.
According to them, the driver of the car might have suddenly applied brakes sighting a radar camera and this may have caused the accident.
An eye witnesses said it seemed the driver lost control and the vehicle hit the divider in the middle of the road, as a result.
After hitting the divider I saw the car colliding with the electric post which was on the divider itself. The impact of the collision was so strong that the top of the car was blown off and the people inside suffered injuries, said an eye witness.
Some people who were watching the tragic incident showed presence of mind and immediately called in the police and paramedics who arrived on the scene within minutes.
The injured were rushed for emergency medical care in an ambulance.
