(MENAFN - The Peninsula) The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah recently inaugurated Qatar Petrochemical Companys (Qapco) Logistics Services Establishment in Tripoli, Lebanon. High ranking officials from Qatar and Lebanon attended the ceremony.

Al Attiyah, who is also the Board Chairman of Qapco said that Qatar is proud of its distinguished economic and political relations with Lebanon, and that opening the companys warehouse in Lebanon would further boost and enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

We look with great admiration at the economic progress and development that Lebanon has been witnessing, despite the hardships the country has experienced in the past years. Such achievements came due to its peoples strong will and determination to succeed, he said.

Dr Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, GM and Board Member of Qapco, said that Qapco has good presence in the Lebanese market, since it opened its representative office in 2006.

Opening our Logistics Services Establishment in Lebanon will definitely help us meet our customers' increasing demands, as our exports of petrochemical products are reaching up to 20,000 MTA. We hope that we can now have faster access to our customers, and that the high quality products and excellent services will be up to their expectations.

Qapcos global marketing network currently consists of 28 overseas representative offices and logistics services establishments. The offices are located in China, India, Egypt, Syria, the UAE, Lebanon, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Yemen, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Turkey, Morocco and the Philippines as well as an agent network to serve Qapcos customers.

The company has also established logistics services establishments in Syria, Egypt Guangzhou, Shanghai and Qingdao in greater China.

Qapco is currently producing 800,000 MTPA (metric ton per annum) of ethylene and 400,000 KMTA of Polyethylene (LDPE).

Two projects have been recently implemented; QATOFIN, joint venture between Qapco (63 percent), TOTAL Petrochemicals of France (36 percent) and Qatar Petroleum (1 percent), for producing 450,000 -600,000 MTA of low linear density polyethylene (LLDPE) in Mesaieed, adjacent to Qapcos plant. The project was officially inaugurated on November 24, 2009.

The other project was Ras Laffan Ethane Cracker, owned by Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC), a joint venture between Q-CHEM and QATOFIN.

RLOC produces 1.3 million MTPA of ethylene, expandable to 1.6 million MTPA, and it will feed the LLDPE of Qatofin Q-Chem II in Mesaieed by a 120 km pipeline from Ras Laffan to Mesaieed. The project was successfully commissioned on March 31 this year.

Qapcos third LDPE plant is still under construction, with a capacity of 250KTA expandable to 300KTA at Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC). It is forecasted to be completed by the end of 2011. After the startup of LDPE-3, Qapcos total LDPE production capacity would be increased to over 650 KTPA.

Qapco is a leading company in the ethylene and polyethylene markets in the Middle East and it is anxious to reinforce that position and strive towards increasing its share in the world markets. Now its products are being exported to over 4000 customers in about 85 countries round the world.
