Syria, Turkey to boost industrial cooperation


(MENAFN) Sana reported that Syria and Turkey have signed an accord aimed at encouraging establishment of joint industries and industrial companies. The agreement, signed by the Minister of Industry of Syria Issa Al-Jouni, and the Turkish Minister of Commerce and Industry Nihat Ergun, stipulated utilization of privileges and facilities, offered in the two countries in the sectors of food packaging, manufacturing industrial equipment, auto spare parts, textiles, housing devices and electrical appliances. The deal envisages mutual cooperation in development of small and medium enterprises, cooperation between the Syrian and Turkish industrial zones, exchange of technical expertise and industrial research. For his part, Ergun estimated volume of the Turkish investments in Syria at $700 million, centered in the northern city of Aleppo, hoping that they would be hiked to $2 billion in the coming two years.
