(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Work on the Northern Ring Road that starts from Ghashaba intersection on the Al Ain-Dubai highway towards Intersection No 3 at Al Nabbagh roundabout is under way in Al Ain, according to a senior municipal official.
Abdullah Hamdan Al Amri, Executive Manager of Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector, Abu Dhabi Municipality, said the 17km-long road would cost around Dh610 million.
The project includes the renovation of the valley located parallel to the main road to protect the road from accumulation of rainwater.
The road connects Al Ain City with Dubai motorway and the neighbouring areas.
The bridge through the valley will also be widened at an estimated cost of Dh56 million.
Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohamad Al Nahyan, Representative of the Abu Dhabi Ruler in the Eastern Region, had inspected the infrastructure projects, roads and dams in Al Ain City. He instructed officials to carry out such projects as fast as possible to serve the public interest.
Shaikh Tahnoun also reviewed the blueprint for the second project for filling up the two ditches in Khatm Al Shakla area near the border with the Sultanate of Oman since rainwater overflows from the ditches and obstructs the truck lane. This project will help water flow smoothly to the west of the city so that the nearby farms and areas could be irrigated.
The Municipal Department is about to conduct a hydrological study in Al Ain City, including the watercourses, valleys, dams and amount of rainfall,
he said.
