AmInvestment Bank Berhad and Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad today arranged a syndicated Ijarah facility of up to RM250 million with Al-Aqar KPJ REIT to signify embarking on the acquisition of nine real estate assets from all across Malaysia.

Al-Aqar KPJ REIT is the first listed Islamic REIT in the world and the first healthcare REIT in the Asia-Pacific region. Its investment strategies are to own and invest in real estate and real estate-related assets.

Present at the ceremony were the signatories Y.Bhg Dato Ahmad Rodzi Bin Pawanteh, Group Managing Director, Amanah Raya Berhad, T.C. Kok, Managing Director, AmInvestment Bank Berhad, and Encik Annis Sheikh Mohamed, Chief Officer of Corporate and Investment Banking, Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad (KFHMB),witnessed by Y.Bhg Datin Paduka Siti Sadiah Sheikh Bakir, Director of Damansara REIT Managers Sdn Bhd, Manager of AL-Aqar KPJ REIT, Y.Bhg Dato Azlan Hashim, Deputy Chairman, AMMB Holdings Berhad and Y. Bhg Dato K. Salman Younis, Managing Director, KFHMB. Also in attendance during the signing ceremony was Tuan Haji Yusaini Bin Sidek, Executive Director of Damansara REIT Managers Sdn Bhd.

Dato Azlan Hashim, said, We are honored to be working once again with Al-Aqar KPJ REIT. At its launch in 2006, AmInvestment Bank Berhad was the Lead Adviser, Managing Underwriter and Sole Placement Agent. This landmark transaction created history as a world first and went on to win several awards, namely the I-REIT Deal of the Year award in Islamic Finance News inaugural Deals of the Year 2006.

For the REITs fund raising exercise, AmInvestment Bank was the Principal Adviser and Lead Arranger for Al-Aqar Capital Sdn Bhds Sukuk Ijarah Programme of up to RM300.0 million. This deal won the Most Innovative Deal from Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards 2008, the Real Estate Deal of the Year in the Islamic Finance News Deals of the Year 2008 and the Best Islamic REIT Deal in Southeast Asia in the inaugural Alpha Southeast Asia Deal Awards 2007.

One of our most notable achievements in healthcare is Al-Salam International Hospital in Kuwait, which is 52% owned by KFH. The current participating financiers for the Syndicate Ijarah Facility are AmIslamic Bank Berhad and Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad.
