LOCAL ROUNDUP: Danville girls lose first game

CHAMPAIGN, Nov 18, 2012 (Menafn - Commercial-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --The Danville girls basketball team lost its first game of the season Saturday, falling to Springfield Southeast 58-39 at the Blue Star Classic.

Alexus Jimson-Miller led the way for the Vikings with 12 points while Breanna Keys had nine points and Michaela Jones added five points. Danville was only down 12-9 after the first quarter, but the lead kept building for Springfield Southeast throughout the game.

The Vikings are now 2-1 and will try to regroup on Monday in Classic action against Rantoul.

CHAMPAIGN -- Thanks to a strong defense, the Blue Devils got their first win of the season against the Tigers at the Blue Star Classic.

"We played a solid defensive game tonight," Bismarck-Henning coach Mike Stephens said. "We knew we had to focus on two player and Maddie Winkler and Brooke Walsh did a great job defending them."

Abby Bergman and Addie Voyles each had seven points for the Blue Devils while Winkler had six points and four assists. Walsh had seven rebounds and Bergman had six steals.

The Blue Devils are 1-2 and will travel to Mahomet to face Mahomet-Seymour on Monday.

Geo-RF, Milford still unbeaten at Classic

FITHIAN -- After a win in their first game at the Oakwood Comet Classic against Blue Ridge on Friday, the Buffaloes completed weekend play with a 50-15 win over the host Comets.

Callan Hall and Maya Green each had 14 points to lead Georgetown-Ridge Farm, while Brittany Hay had eight points and Kayla Wolpert added five.

Amelia Burke had seven points for Oakwood, while Lexy Terry, Makayla Gaylor, Sadie Edwards and Abbagale Black each had two.

The Comets played Shiloh later in the day and lost 59-23 as Gaylor has 13 points and Terry had five points.

Hoopeston Area started the day losing to Blue Ridge 51-21 as Erika Solis had seven points and Sarah Dixon added four and lost to Shiloh 55-32 as Tori Smock has 10 points, Hailey Dixon had six and Olivia Smith and Cayla Davis each had five.

Milford started tournament play on Saturday and defeated Chrisman 40-37 and Urbana University High 45-19.

Against Chrisman, Samantha Wilken had 15 points while Corissa Allen had seven points and Kylie Thrush added six. Thrush had 10 points to lead the Bearcats against Urbana University while Wilken had nine and Erin McNally had eight.

Sarah Ellis had 12 and Avoree Switzer had 10 for the Cardinals against the Bearcats. Chrisman went on to lose another close game, 39-37 to Heritage. Ellis had 13 points while Chey Warner and Shelby Warner each had six.

Ashley Hoffman had 12 points as Westville defeated Urbana University High 35-25 with Dani Gabehart scoring 10 points and Carson Richardson adding six.

The Classic continues Monday with Milford playing Heritage at 5 p.m. and Georgetown-Ridge Farm playing Hoopeston Area at 6:30 p.m.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Dashers took the lead in the first period and hung on to it to get their third win of the season.

The Outlaws took the early 1-0 lead but Danville's Chris Affinati and Justin Levac each had goals for a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Williamsport tied things up early in the second period, but Lee McClure gave the Dashers the lead again and Jonathan Juliano put the game away for Danville in the third period.

Levac, David Lun, Billy Hunt, Darick Ste. Marie, Henry Coxe, Ryan Stern and Ryan Huggett each had one assist for the Dashers, while Kyle McClure had 35 saves in goal.

The Dashers will return to the David S. Palmer Arena on Wednesday to play the Dayton Demonz.
