BRIEF: State Farm grant promotes Girl Scout business training

BLOOMINGTON, Oct 06, 2012 (Menafn - The Pantagraph - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Girl Scouts of Central Illinois has received a 20,000 State Farm Insurance Cos. grant to teach business and financial skills to girls in 38 counties.

"Financial Fitness for Girls" focuses on goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

The money will help two parts of the program: the cookie rallies and staff-led outreach programming.

More than 2,600 girls participate in regional cookie rallies, which introduce the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Girls apply skills and knowledge through the cookie program to set financial goals and find ways to fund community service projects.

The outreach program helps deserving girls develop financial literacy skills and earn their own money to participate in council-sponsored activities/camp or community service projects.
