BRIEF: Parts of Carlsbad without power after hit and run

Residents near the 1800 block of Tansill Street woke up to a loud crashing sound early Saturday morning while much of Carlsbad lost power when a truck struck a telephone pole around 12:30 a.m.

Carlsbad Police Department is looking for a white pickup truck with heavy front-end damage that is believed to have hit the pole near the intersection of Tansill and Leavell. Power appeared to be out west of Mesa Street to the Happy Valley area. The truck was last seen headed eastbound on Alta Vista and is being investigated as a hit-and-run. Sgt. Ernie Mendoza said residents of one home were evacuated as the utility ole was leaning precariously over part of the home. The outage lasted about two hours, according to Xcel.
