Oct 10, 2012 (Menafn - AME Info - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --DP WORLD SPENDS 170M ON NEW CRANES, RMGS FOR JEBEL ALI PORT: DP World has awarded Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co (ZPMC) a 170m contract to supply nine ship-to-shore cranes and 25 automated rail-mounted gantries (RMGs) to Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. Under the terms of the deal, ZPMC is to deliver the equipment in batches throughout 2013 and 2014.
RTA TO ADD MORE LANES TO AL WASL ROAD: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is considering to launch Al Wasl Road development project along with the extension of Business Bay Canal, Khaleej Times has reported. "The authority is considering Al Wasl Road development project, which stretches as long as 11 kilometres from Al Wasl-Al Safa signal junction to Al Wasl intersection with Al Manara Street. The development will take into account the bridge which will be built as part of the extension of the Business Bay Canal," a source at the RTA told the daily. The road which has two lanes on each direction will also be developed into three lanes on each direction. The Business Bay Canal extension project includes elevating part of the Sheikh Zayed Road above the canal to allow a free traffic flow.
AMMAN TO HAVE NEW PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES AT BUSY CROSSINGS: The municipality of the Jordanian capital, Amman, has announced plans to build six metal pedestrian bridges across the city next year to facilitate pedestrian traffic across busy streets, Jordan Times has reported. "Each year, we receive requests from hospitals, schools and other entities to build bridges so that people can cross the street easily and avoid road accidents. We are currently planning to build 25 bridges, but the municipality's budget does not allow us to construct them all at once. We only build five or six bridges a year," Mohammad Ghassan, the head of civic body's construction department. Amman currently has around 110 pedestrian bridges, according to Ghassan.
