Kuwait- Department Sets Criteria For Hiring Specialized Personnel

(MENAFN- Arab Times) A specialized department, the center for accreditation of professional skills, is setting criteria for employment of civil servants on basis of education and skills, in coordination with various government departments. Dr Homoud Al-Mudhaf, the director-general of the center, explained to KUNA objectives of the center, founded in 2004, saying it is aimed at axing unqualified staff and replacing them with skilled ones, in line with the national development strategies, simultaneously with tackling defects in the country's demographic status, limiting inflow of unskilled expatriate workers, and creating jobs for nationals in the private sector. An initial project for the center that concluded in 2009 laid bases for technical work, job description, organized vocational tests, in addition to setting standards. The second program that began in August 2009, due to end in 2014, is designed to set skills criteria for professions, at a rate of 100 professions per year. Moreover, Al-Mudhaf indicated that the authority had succeeded in specifying vocational skills standards for up to 400 professions. Delegations from other GCC countries that had visited Kuwait voiced deep admiration at the national achievements at this level and expressed desire to relay relevant recommendations to the ministers of labor and social affairs for examination at their next meeting, due in Riyadh on September 29, he added. Only six states showed interest in setting up such a department five years ago, globally, but now the number rose to 121.
