(MENAFN) A report issued by research analyst RNCOS showed that the UAE has one of the lowest number of doctors per thousand people, compared to developed markets in the US and Europe, Arabian Business reported.

The report also estimated the UAE will need nearly 13,000 new doctors by 2014 in order to cope with the growth in the country's healthcare sector.

The UAE healthcare industry is turning into an attractive destination for healthcare professionals worldwide, the report said.

The report expected UAE's healthcare market to grow at an annual rate of 16 percent over the next two years and will be worth around USD14.6 billion in 2014.

Data from the CIA World Factbook, based on 2009 figures, showed the UAE currently spends 2.8 percent of gross domestic product on healthcare, compared to three percent in Oman, 4.5 percent in Jordan, five percent in Saudi Arabia and 16.2 percent in the US.
