(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) AIBAK (Pajhwok): Orchards of different fruits have been grown on more than 500 acres of land as part of this year€™s spring tree plantation campaign in northern Samangan province, an official said Thursday.
Mohammad Jafar Muhseni, acting head of the Samangan agriculture, irrigation, farming and livestock, told Pajhwok Afghan News 10.8 million afghanis were spent on growing the fruit orchards.
He said half of the money was provided by farmers and the remaining half by the World Bank (WB). A total of 14,000 fruit saplings were planted, according to Museni.
Pistachio seedlings were planted on above 167.5 acres of land, grapes on 164 acres, apples on 131.5 acres, cherry on 19 acres, peach on 17 acres, apricot on 23.5 acres and pears on 10 acres.
Farmers are happy over the establishment of fruit orchards on their lands.
Mohammad Asif Qasemi, forest department director, said the professional cultivation of plants and orchards had been started in Samangan since 2009.
Agriculture officials say over two million fruit saplings would be planted nationwide this spring.
