Princess Basma attends conclusion of nation-wide music programme

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN – Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Basma and with the attendance of Education Minister Omar Razzaz, 'Izif', a programme to teach music to students was concluded on Saturday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the programme, titled 'Izif-teaching music at civil society centres', music lessons were given to students at Princess Basma Development Centres, public schools and innovation centres in Amman, Irbid, Maan, Balqa, Tafileh and Karak.

The lessons were provided by Jordanian musicians affiliated with Izif Company, which also provided the instruments.

During the ceremony, Razzaz said that music is an essential part of education, just like poetry, literature, arts and sports, noting that music teaches teamwork, leadership and persistence.

He said that music is not a luxury but an essential part of peoples' lives and a means to express their values and celebrate occasions.

As of the next educational year, the ministry will begin conducting school activities that focus on arts and music and will work on establishing a music centre at every education directorate, Razzaz noted.

During the event, which was held at Haya Cultural Centre, 40 students who benefitted from the programme performed a number music pieces and songs in Arabic and English.

Izif Company's CEO Bisher Abu Taleb said his firm is working on reshaping the culture of music in the country through Izif programmes, due to the positive impact of music on human behavior, academic achievement and creative self-expression.

The programme was implemented with the support of King Abdullah II Fund for Development and executed by FHI360, a US-based nonprofit human development organisation, funded by USAID. It also received support from Bank Al Etihad and Zain Jordan, and was carried out in partnership with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), Ruwwad Centre, Ibbaa Centre in Karak and King Hussein Cancer Centre.
