Libya seizes 16 involved with al-Qaida

(MENAFN) Libyan army was revealed to have seized sixteen terrorists who are believed to be linked to al-Qaida during their attempts to creep into the country.

The army's department issued a statement declaring "the Counter-terrorism Department members managed to take down fighters of Al-Nusra Front with an ambush in the Kufra desert after they were trying to infiltrate the Libyan territories."

The statement also affirmed the militants who were captured to have been fighters from Syria and Sudan who participated in the Syrian war.

It then explained "initial investigations confirm that Turkey sends fighters to Sudan and then they are smuggled into Libya, specifically to Sirte, to join al-Qaeda in Libya which is known as the Shura Council of Fighters, and the Libyan Fighting Group and its political arm the Muslim Brotherhood."
