Qatar calls on IAEA to help members benefit from N-energy

Vienna: The State of Qatar called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to intensify its efforts to assist member states in building research reactors to develop their capabilities and contributions, to benefit from the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and to accelerate the objectives of the sustainable development plan.
This came in a statement delivered by Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, H E Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, before the current session of (IAEA) Board of Governors, reviewing nuclear technology for 2018.
The State of Qatar stressed the importance of increasing the participation of developing countries in the research courses of IAEA Seibersdorf laboratories in Vienna, to enable them to build their capacities and meet social and economic challenges.
The State of Qatar called on IAEA member states to support the modernisation of Seibersdorf laboratories, because of the important courses and researches they hold to help developing countries build their capacity and address social and economic challenges.
Ambassador Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani presented Qatar's national plans and its adoption of nuclear energy as part of the future energy mix and as an essential engine for sustainable development, stressing that the State of Qatar is working to provide the necessary infrastructure and develop the national scientific competencies to achieve these goals.
Qatar is also working to develop the legal framework and organisational structure that allows the construction of a scientific technical base in the field of power generation as well as medical, industrial, agricultural and environmental applications.
