(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, February 25 (Petra) -- China's Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang on Sunday said his country maintains strong relations with the Kingdom and seeks to strengthen and develop them and explore wider economic possibilities, especially since Jordan will be the center of reconstruction in Syria and Iraq.
In a lecture at the Jordan Media Institute titled: "Jordanian-Arab-Chinese Relations," Pan said that his country is financing a number of vital and important projects in the Kingdom, including a $2.2-billion shale oil project, with a contribution of $1.6 billion. Further, he noted, China supports Jordan's drive towards the construction of a peaceful nuclear reactor for the purpose of energy production.
He added that his country will also join some future projects such as the Red Sea–Dead Sea Water Conveyance, the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline and a number of industrial projects.
Pan said China is a moderate country and seeks to further expand its relations with Jordan by providing humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees in the Kingdom and exploring wider economic potential.
Speaking on the Palestinian issue, the ambassador said: "Beijing always stands up to the just causes of peoples and can play a bigger role in the peace process because of its good relations with the Palestinians and the Israelis, so China can be a good broker to reach a two-state solution." The ambassador and the attendance discussed a wide range of issues. He indicated that his country's support to North Korea is purely humanitarian, while noting that Beijing "supports international resolutions on Pyongyang and at the same time rejects the proliferation of nuclear weapons even though it has not signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, because the Chinese nuclear bomb is for self-defense, and China has repeatedly declared that it will be the last to use the bomb whatever happens."
