Regent launches regular service to Dammam


(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka : Private sector carrier Regent Airways spreads its wings to Dammam ,the third biggest commercial city of Saudi Arabia. The inaugural flight with 150 passengers left 's Hazrat Shahzalal International Airport for Dammam on February 22.

Dammam becomes the eighth international destination of the airline. Initially four weekly flights to be operated on -Dammam- route. Daily flights are expected from coming June.

Earlier, Abdullah H M Al Mutairi, Ambassador, Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh formally inaugurated the new route on the same day evening at a ceremony held at Regents Headquarter at Uttara in the capital.

Head of the Department of Media, Economic and Cultural Affairs of Royal Saudi Embassy Saad Bin Awad Al-Qahtani, Regent Airways Chief Executive Officer Lt. Gen (Retd) M. Fazle Akber ,Managing Director Mashruf Habib, Chief Commercial officer Hanif Zakaria and Chief of Corporate Affairs (CCA) Akhter U. Ahmed, were present among others on occasion.

Wishing a successful journey ahead to Regent Airways, Saudi Ambassador said 'Having more flights between two countries may enable more options for the passengers to choose. At the same time it will strengthen our existing bilateral relation'.

'The relation between Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh which is based on religious bonding and friendship is very deep. The Bangladeshi expatriates are contributing to Saudi Arabia's socio-economic development and living standard of Saudi people. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia is a close associate of Bangladesh in its development programme.'

CEO of Regent Airways said, 'Opening of the new route to Saudi Arabia, the largest job market for Bangladesh abroad is a great achievement for Regent Airways. We have a dream to cover the entire sky of the Middle East and we are going forward with this plan.'

He informed that Regent Airways is preparing for launch of services to Jeddah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia and to Bahrain and Abu Dhabi as well.

The inaugural flight arrived Dammam King Fahad International airport at 12.50 am next day . The airport authority welcomed the flight with Water Cannon Salute. The return flight with 100 passengers left Dammam at 1.50 am and reached at 9.45 am on the same day.
