Riyadh, Jumada II 07, 1439, February 23, 2018, SPA -- Spokesman of the coalition forces to support the legitimacy in Yemen Colonel Turki Al-Maliki said that the joint command of the coalition followed with interest some media reports that two transport vehicles and one transport truck were targeted by the forces' offensives on one of the roads in the southern city of Saada, in Saada province, on Wednesday at (17:40) Jumada II 05, 1439, February 21, 2018.
Colonel Al-Maliki said that the Command of Joint Forces of Coalition has completed all the post-action procedures for the operational tasks carried out on Wednesday, as well as the comprehensive review of the legitimate military objectives to include the planning and auditing procedures and their conformity with international humanitarian law and its customary rules of targeting (military necessity, Proportionality, humanity) as well as rules of engagement for coalition forces.
It was found that what was targeted at the place and time of the prosecution on Wednesday (Jumada II 05, 1439, February 21, 2018) is a "legitimate military target" which is a checkpoint to gather some elements of the Iran-backed coup's armed militia, not civilians. It was found later that World Food Programme (WFP) truck damaged as a result of its movement inside the area of operations without applying for permit to provide protection for convoys and relief crews, according to the procedures and instructions for the movement of humanitarian organizations within Yemen, which is contrary to the coordination procedures between the Command of Joint Forces of Coalition and the Office of humanitarian affairs Coordinator in Yemen.
Colonel Al-Maliki stressed the commitment of the coalition to apply the provisions of international humanitarian law, including the protection of crews and relief organizations. He called on all humanitarian organizations working inside Yemen to follow the coordination procedures and instructions for the movement of humanitarian convoys and relief teams to ensure the necessary protection for them, so not to repeat what happened for lack of commitment to the necessary action and protection.
