DCA shots Turkish plane down

(MENAFN) The DCA of the Syrian Arab army Forces have shot down a Turkish spy plane as it flew over the Afrin region.

Syrian Arab army air defense intercepted a Turkish spy plane over the al-Ziara crossing near Afrin, according to Al-Mayadeen.

The arrival on Tuesday, February 20, of the Syrian Popular Forces in the Afrin region has angered Ankara. Immediately after the entry of these forces, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, claimed that the artillery of the Turkish army had prevented the advancement of Syrian forces to Afrin.

Yesterday, at the Ankara meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Erdogan announced that the army had begun to encircle the city of Afrin.

On Thursday, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said that "Every step taken in support for the YPG terror organisation would mean (any forces intervening on the Kurdish militants' side) are on the same level as terror organisations. And for us, that would make them legitimate targets."
