Pakistan to speed up repatriation of Afghan refugees


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has decided to speed up the repatriation of Afghan refugees in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

At a meeting chaired by the prime minister in Islamabad late on Tuesday, the federal cabinet said the government would facilitate the voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees holding proof of repatriation cards.

€œIt was emphasised the international community should fulfill its obligations towards shouldering this responsibility to ensure the smooth repatriation and rehabilitation of the refugees,€ said a spokesman for Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

In line with the second extension in the stay of Afghans in Pakistan, the refugees will be repatriated after March 31. The government promised all possible facilitation for the voluntary repatriation drive.
