Egypt, France get started on joint naval exercise to boost Red Sea security


(MENAFN) Egypt's Armed Forces have declared the "Cleopatra 2018 joint naval exercise" to have commenced by the country and France, aiming for security to be strengthened in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

In a statement, Egyptian military spokesman Tamer al-Refaay confirmed the drill to have been launched in the annual framework of joint exercises of the Armed Forces.

Egypt and France have built strong military relations, considering a USD1 billion deal they made for two French Mistral warships to be acquired.

France has also provided two Rafale fighter jets for the Egyptian Armed Forces as part of another agreement signed in 2015, at a valued of USD6.1 billion.
